Dynamic Compaction

R.F.Q.

Dynamic Compaction (DC) technique achieves deep ground densification using the high dynamic impact resulting from the drop of large pounder. The process is consist of delivering high energy impacts at the ground surface by repeatedly dropping steel pounder (normally 10 tons to 25 tons) from heights ranging from 10 m to 25 m. It is applied in a systematically controlled pattern of drops on a coordinated grid layout. The initial impacts are spaced at a distance dictated by the depth of improvement, depth to groundwater and grain size distribution. Soil strength is increased, and compressibility and settlements are decreased as a result of the densification. This ground improvement method is applicable to treat any type of granular soils (i.e., sandy grounds). It is also particularly well-adopted in non-heterogeneous fills, man-made grounds, reclamation and landfill areas. This method is widely used for warehouses, port terminals, airport runaways, roads, residential development, etc.
