Children are recommended to have their eyes checked by an optometrist at least once 6-monthly or yearly from age 3 onwards.
Hidden eye conditions such as lazy eyes, squint eyes can be detected easily by an optometrists and treated with good prognosis before the age of 9.
A basic pediatric eye examination would include:
- Refraction (checking of power)
- Binocular vision assessment (detecting lazy eyes, squint eyes etc)
- Colour vision assessment
- Anterior eye health assessment (checking of the health of corneas, eyelids, eye lashes etc)
A complete pediatric eye examination would include:
- Abovementioned
- Eye pressure
- Posterior ocular health (checking of the retina, optic nerve etc)
