AISI 316L is a low-carbon variant of 316 stainless steel, known for its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in harsh environments containing chlorides or other chemicals. The addition of molybdenum enhances its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it ideal for use in marine, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and medical applications. Its low carbon content minimizes the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, maintaining its resistance to intergranular corrosion. AISI 316L is widely used for applications that require high durability, good formability, and outstanding resistance to corrosion in aggressive conditions.
