CONCRETE ASIA – POST COVID-19 TECHNOLOGY, NEW NORMS & BEST PRACTICES
Published:
Bangkok, Thailand, 16 May 2020 – The concrete industry is facing disruptions to its operation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our industry is facing significant stresses brought about by disruptions such as schedule delays, workforce disruptions, equipment and supply chain disruptions, imposition of health and safety measures that affect productivity, delays in permit approvals, cash flow and cost management issues, contract terminations, just to name a few.
Although public construction is one of the few activities that has somewhat been maintained to some extent, the long-term outlook is uncertain with decreased demands as governments face rising deficits and low or negative GDP growth. Traditionally, the concrete industry has been slow in adopting technology. However, with this present pandemic, many construction companies are fast-tracking towards applying technology to improve their efficiency and gain operational advantages.
The pandemic has somehow speed up the industry’s transformation towards becoming a knowledge-based industry driven by application of technology and adoption of digital solutions to facilitate better communications between all stakeholders, reducing costs, and eliminating problems of inefficiency and wastage. The industry will also see new normal and best practices ranging from AI, robotic constructions, real-time data analytics to cloud-based technology and other digital related platforms.
These emerging technologies, new norms and best practices will be presented at CONCRETE ASIA – the 5th international exhibition for the Asian concrete sector – to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 9th to 11th September 2020. In fact, CONCRETE ASIA is poised to be amongst the first post-COVID 19 “face-to-face” construction related industry platform to be staged in Thailand, to kick-start the stalled construction sector, and help push the momentum of the concrete sector towards technology adoptions, and accepting new norms and best industry practices.
Representing a total of 6 key industry profiles, namely Concrete materials, Ready-mixed concrete, Precast concrete, Decorative concrete, Recycled concrete and Concrete technology, the event will see over 300 local and international exhibiting companies, together with over 7,000 attendees and industry players from Thailand and across the region. There will also be live and on-line industry seminars and conferences, with over 460 pre-arranged business meetings.
CONCRETE ASIA is supported by the Thailand Concrete Association (TCA) as the event’s Co-Host. Associate Professor Thanakorn Pheeraphan, President of TCA said “We are using CONCRETE ASIA as the platform to help us push for the digitalization of the concrete industry.
Our association is arranging seminars and workshops to introduce and highlight the application of new technology and modern prefabricated methodology in infrastructure, transportation and high-rise construction projects. We are expecting over 300 members to attend and we are encouraging members to be updated on the latest technology trends in our industry.”
CONCRETE ASIA will be held in conjunction with INTERMAT ASEAN - The Southeast Asian trade show for construction and infrastructure, and the Thailand Building Information Modelling Expo. Mr. Loy Joon How, General Manager, IMPACT Exhibition Management Co., Ltd. said, “CONCRETE ASIA is expected to generate much interests amongst industry players, especially at a time where the industry is looking towards resuming businesses, re-establishing networks, learn and adopt new norms and practices. Obviously, technology solutions to support these new norms will be a key area of interest and as such, this event will very much be well attended.”
