Which Car Lifts to Choose
Car Lifts come in a variety of different configurations. For a good basic over view We need to figure out which Car Lift is right for you and it depends on what you plan to do with the car lift and how much space you have for it. Car Lifts fall into two basic categories based on how they lift the car.

- Scissor-Type

These frame-engaging lifts lie flat on the floor, allowing the car to drive over them. Once the arms are positioned to align with the jack points, an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic system will raise the lift by means of scissor-action joints.

· PROS: Cheaper than other lift types

· CONS: Consumes space on the floor; low-riding cars will have trouble clearing and low lift height

- Two-Post Lifts

This is a common frame Car Lift design that supports the vehicle’s weight with metal arms attached to two posts at the side of the vehicle.

· PROS: Can support heavier loads and allows full access to the wheels and under-carriage. It also uses relatively little floor space.

· CONS: Must be bolted to the floor. The posts will normally rock slightly during use therefore the bolts must be checked frequently.

- Four-post Lifts

These are wheel-engaging lifts with two runways that in which the vehicle will park and four posts is used to support the runways as they rise, normally using hydraulic mechanisms.

· PROS: Easy to drive on and off the runways. Four-Post stability means no bolting is required.

· CONS: The lift takes up a lot of space and the runways may block access to parts of the car.
