SS310 is a heat-resistant stainless steel that keeps its strength and resists scaling where ordinary stainless fails — its 24–26% chromium and 19–22% nickel give oxidation resistance up to about 1100°C. What SS310 Is
SS310 (UNS S31000) is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic stainless steel developed for high-temperature service. Where SS304 begins to scale and lose strength as the heat climbs, SS310's heavier alloying forms a stable oxide layer that protects it in continuous high-heat environments — furnaces, kilns, combustion chambers and heat-treatment equipment. It also stays tough at the other extreme, holding ductility down to cryogenic temperatures with low magnetic permeability.
310S (UNS S31008) is the low-carbon version, easier to weld and less prone to carbide precipitation during fabrication and long high-temperature exposure. 310H (UNS S31009) is the controlled higher-carbon version for improved creep strength. One limit to note: SS310 handles oxidising and moderately carburising atmospheres well, but severe carburising or high-sulfur reducing atmospheres may call for a dedicated nickel alloy such as 330 — tell us the atmosphere and we'll confirm suitability.

SS310 resists oxidation up to about 1100 degrees Celsius (2010 degrees Fahrenheit) under mildly cyclic conditions. Frequent thermal cycling lowers that limit, so the exact continuous and intermittent service temperatures depend on the atmosphere and should be confirmed for each application.
What is the difference between 310, 310S and 310H?
They are the same base alloy at different carbon levels. Standard 310 has higher carbon for strength, 310S is the low-carbon version with better weldability and less carbide precipitation, and 310H has controlled higher carbon for improved creep resistance at very high temperatures. In many plates the chemistry meets both 310S and 310H requirements.
How is SS310 different from SS304?
SS310 has much higher chromium (24 to 26 percent) and nickel (19 to 22 percent) than SS304, which is why it withstands continuous high-temperature service above 1000 degrees Celsius where SS304 would scale and lose strength. SS304 is the cheaper choice for ambient and mildly warm service, while SS310 is chosen for furnaces and high-heat environments.
